Windows 10 has some really awesome features because of which I like it and many users as well. Still, there are some concerns because of which other users don’t like Windows 10 a lot. One of those concerns is it consumes data. Whether there is some feature update, app update, etc., WiFi and/or Ethernet data is consumed in the background without the knowledge of user (unless you have turned off some options for background data usage). Though we can access Settings of Windows 10 and access Network & Internet menu to view data usage, viewing data usage directly is not a straightforward option. Wouldn’t it be good if we can see data usage directly on Start menu of Windows 10? Keeping that in mind, I have covered this guide that will help you show live data usage in Start menu of Windows 10.
We already have features like set bandwidth for downloading updates, set a connection as metered connection, etc., and viewing data usage directly is also possible in Windows 10. We can see live data usage for WiFi and Ethernet connection in the Start menu of Windows 10. There is just a simple trick to do that. And, this guide will help you in that.
As you can see in the image above, the live tile is showing WiFi and Ethernet data usage in my Windows 10 Start menu. Once the live tile added, you can right-click on that tile and use Resize option to make tile smaller, medium, or large. You can also remove that tile in just 2 clicks.
Steps To Show Live Data Usage In Start Menu of Windows 10:
1). Open Settings of Windows 10. You can use Win+i hotkey to open Settings. Or else, you can click the Start button and then tap on Settings icon to open it.
2). In Settings window, you will see ‘Network & Internet‘. Select it.
3). Under Network & Internet menu, there is a Data Usage page. Right-click on Data Usage page and select ‘Pin to Start‘ option.
4). A confirmation box will open “Do you want to pin this tile to Start. Press ‘Yes‘.
This is it!
5). Now open Start menu. There you will see a new live tile showing the live data usage for WiFi and Ethernet.
Whenever you will open Start menu, you can see how much data is consumed for WiFi and Ethernet connection.
So, this is how you can see live data usage in Start menu of Windows 10. I guess this a nice trick for those who want to check their WiFi data usage or Ethernet data usage directly from Start menu. You can also view Internet usage on Taskbar using some 3rd party tools. If you don’t prefer that and don’t want to use Settings window and follow other steps again and again, then adding the live tile for data usage on Start menu is better. The good thing is you can adjust the size of tile to see data usage properly as well as remove the data usage tile whenever you want. Try it and share with others also.
