Here is how to record video in Gmail and share with any person of your choice using Chrome browser. Don’t get surprised as it is really possible. You can record video (along with audio) using Compose Mail box within your Gmail account, add effects while recording video and then share it with others by adding email address of recipients. Anyone who will receive your email will be able to access the recorded video and play it. Isn’t it great? I guess it is, indeed! This isn’t a hidden feature of Gmail. To record video in Gmail, you need to use one of my favorite and free Chrome extensions “Video Email“.
Video Email (by cloudHQ) is quite an interesting Chrome extension which makes it possible to record and send videos from Gmail account. It adds a Record button just next to Send button in Compose Mail window of Gmail using which you can start the recording and send it to recipients. You can record and embed one or multiple videos in Gmail email. There are many situations when this extension can be used. As an example, you can use it when you are sending some instructions related to a problem. Along with instructions, you can record your video along with audio and sent it to the receiver.
This screenshot (above) shows a video recorded using this extension and embedded to new Gmail email. A link “Video Email by cloudHQ” is also added in the email that can help others open homepage of this extension and install it. However, if you don’t want to add this link, you can simply delete it from the email.
You must also be wondering where the video is uploaded, what about the video privacy and other things. So here are all the important points that will help you understand everything related to this extension:
- You will need your webcam to record video.
- You can toggle camera on/off in between the recording.
- You must create or sign in to your cloudHQ account to use this extension.
- This Video Email extension uses your YouTube account associated with the connected Gmail to store the video. Thus, the video is stored or uploaded directly to your YouTube account as private video and not on 3rd party servers. So, whatever you have recorded belongs to you only. No one will have access to the recorded video unless you share it with others.
- There are many video effects that can be applied while recording. Some of the effects are: Sepia, Vintage, Breaking News 1, Breaking News 2, Breaking News 3, Toaster, Black and White, Vintage TV, etc.
- It lets you preview video before embedding to email.
- You can delete the recorded video anytime you want.
- While recording the video, you can pause and resume it.
- You can set the zoom level in between the video recording.
- You can’t upload a video from PC and select start and end points for recording.
So these are the points you can have a look before using this extension. After that, you can proceed further.
Let’s See The Steps To Record Video In Gmail and Share With Others:
1). Open your Chrome browser and install this extension. For your convenience, I have added homepage link of Video Email here as well as at the end of this guide.
2). After installation, a new tab will open automatically where you need to select the preferred Gmail account for login. Now open Compose Mail window and the extension will provide a basic guide about using this extension. As you can see in image below, a new Record button is added just next to Send button.
3). Close the guide and click that Record button. Now you need to login to your cloudHQ account to use this extension. If you haven’t created any cloudHQ account yet, then you need to create it. After login, you need to allow this extension to manage your YouTube account.
This is one time setup only. Now you are ready to record a video directly from your Gmail account.
4). Whenever you want to record a video in Gmail, open Compose Mail window and press Record button. A pop-up window will open. In that window, you can set video name, access effects, and zoom options. That window also provides the video area where you can see yourself while recording the video. You also need to allow access to your camera and microphone so that this extension can start the recording.
When you are all set, press Record button, and video recording will begin. In between the recording, you can apply effects, change zoom level, pause and resume recording.
5). When recording is done, press Stop button. To upload the video, the extension will prompt you to create a channel (if there is no channel). Go and create your YouTube channel. This is also one time step.
6). Now your video is ready. You should preview it. You can do this within that pop-up window. This will help you check video and audio quality. If recording is good, press Embed video into email button.
Now the extension will start uploading the recorded video to your YouTube channel. This process may take some time if the size of video recording is large.
Finally, the video will be embedded to your email. You can follow the above steps to add more videos if you want. After that, you can enter email address of recipients, and send the email.
The recipients can tap on the video link and play it to check what you have shared with them.
So this is all about this amazing extension. Recording a video in Gmail is perhaps can’t be simpler than this. Only three steps are needed to record video in Gmail and share: record, upload, and send. cloudHQ has provided many great extensions before also. This time, it has presented another valuable Chrome extension, which helps to record video in Gmail and share with others. I like the extension a lot. From the user perspective, this extension is really useful and therefore I can recommend it to you guys.
