Using Incognito mode in Google Chrome simply means you can browse privately. Chrome won’t store any of your browsing history, website/webpage data, or cookies. Though we have the options to open Chrome browser in normal window as well as incognito window, those who just want to open Chrome browser always in the incognito mode they can do this a very simple Windows registry tweak. Whether you will open a new tab or new window, it will open in incognito or private mode.
Using Windows registry trick, normal mode option of Chrome browser is disabled. So, whenever you will launch Chrome browser on your PC, it will launch with Incognito mode only. You can make this change permanent or temporary.
Before you check the tweak, you can see customization and control menu of Google Chrome in the image added below. As pointed in the screenshot, normal window option is disabled. Only incognito tab or window can be opened.
You can undo the changes anytime or keep the changes as long as you want. I have used Windows 10 for this tweak. It should work on older versions of Windows also. Before using this or any Registry tweak, you should carefully follow the steps. Also, you should have a system restore point or PC backup to overcome any unwanted problem.
Now let’s see how to perform this tweak.
Steps to Always Open Chrome Browser in Incognito Mode:
1). Use the Search box of Windows and type regedit. This will show Registry Editor in the search result. Click that result and Registry Editor window will open.
2). In Registry Editor window, go to Chrome key by accessing the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome
3). On the right-hand side, create a DWORD (32-bit) Value. To create this value, right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. After creating it, rename that value to IncognitoModeAvailability.
4). Double-click on IncognitoModeAvailability value. In the Value data field, add ‘2‘, and use the OK button.
5). Close Chrome browser if you have already opened it and then launch it again. When you will launch the browser, it will open with incognito window. Shortcuts (Ctrl+T and Ctrl+N) to open normal tab and normal window will also won’t work. Only incognito tabs and windows can be opened.
6). To use the normal tab and normal window again in Chrome browser, you can repeat step 1 to 4, and replace 2 with ‘0‘ in the Value data field. Save the change by using OK button and then Chrome browser will work with normal mode as well as incognito mode.
Tip: If you want to disable incognito mode in Chrome browser and keep normal mode only, then add ‘1’ in the value data field, and save it.
