It happens many times that while working on our system, we find that system is running slow or it is taking more time than normal to open and run applications. This actually happens when some program/application heavily uses those two important components: CPU and RAM. Although Windows Taskbar can help us check which application is consuming more system memory and CPU usage, but Taskbar is too messy. If you are looking for some easy to understand option, then you should try a free real-time RAM and CPU usage monitor software, “Compact Tray Meter“.
This free RAM and CPU usage monitor silently sits in the system tray and shows live results. It can also be used to check disk drives activity. Moreover, the software shows some detailed information related to CPU and RAM. So, I would say that it is more than just a simple RAM and CPU usage monitor.
Let us see how this works. The homepage gives you the information to download the software.
Once you hit download, you will get a zip file. Extract the file and run the .exe file.
After running .exe file, you will see its tray icon.
Do a right-click on its tray icon and choose Settings.
Here in settings, choose the options you want to see. You can show CPU and RAM meters in notification area, show system drive, external drive meter, enable/disable smooth meter reading, and other options. Use OK button to save settings.
Once you have adjusted the settings, you will see three icons at the bottom-right corner. One to check CPU usage, one for RAM and one for your system drive.
Here you can just point at the icon and it will show free and available RAM, disk read and write speed, and system drive space. You can also right click on the icon and click RAM info or CPU info or Drive info on the respective icons and you will see a detailed information on it like the one given below.
Here I have shown Ram info. It is showing total installed physical memory, speed, data width, socket, etc. To check CPU usage, you can use CPU info as on CPU icon.
When you will restart the computer, you will not see any tray icon or the setting. The program vanishes. You will have to run the .exe file again and it will take the previous settings automatically. So, from running to configuring it, everything is straight forward. In a single line, it can be a very good alternative to many other RAM and CPU usage monitor tools.
